Working for the Devil
Working for the Devil, Lilith Saintcrow. A rare new entry in the paranormal genre that actually looks to be a good series setup. Saintcrow's strength is in developing a universe more supernatural than spooky - there's no plethora of weres and vampires running about, but there are demons, and deathgods, and unearthly genetic engineering.

Dante Valentine has a personal connection to Anubis and makes a living as a bounty hunter and zombie-raiser. (Like Hamilton's Anita Blake, back when she actually solved mysteries instead of screwing everyone). Summoned by Lucifer himself to prevent a mysterious egg from being hatched, Danny soon finds herself on the trail of a supernatural serial killer with a very personal connection. This is a respectable thriller with mysterious elements, and Saintcrow's given herself a near-future world with plenty of things to play with. We still have yet to learn about the Guilds, the death gods, demonic gengineering, and Dante's new abilities.
