For a Few Demons More, Kim Harrison. Harrison's hardcover debut packs quite the punch, and continues to show she isn't afraid to shake things up or alienate readers. As someone who likes unpredictability, this is refreshing as the fifth entry in a series that could have gotten stale with sameness.
Major character death. Impending character death. Dubious moral
decisions, murder, and more soap opera than you can shake a stick out.
All this with enough tongue in cheek references and outright
goodnatured humor to make the character torture palatable. All in all,
kudos to Harrison for daring the unexpected - it should make for a hell
of a sequel.
