Twisted Librarian Book reviews, opinions, and places to buy
Forbidden Magic
Forbidden Magic, Cheyenne McCray. Let us subtitle this review "I like my sex with plot, kthanks." I'm not sure where to start here - the plot is so thinly spread it could easily be condensed into 15 pages, not the 400 + of this padded monstrosity. It could have been marginally tolerable if it was a smidgen original, but McCray sticks with the "good witches/bad witches," cliche, throwing in the odd winged Scotsman and sex-addicted demons.

The sex .. is not the worst I've read, but only because I slogged through some of Laurell K. Hamilton's more comma-ridden recent effluent. There's a gross overuse of the word "fuck" and extreme repetition of most of the other descriptive elements - how many times do we need to know your main character doesn't wear underwear? I finished it, all the while damning my compulsion towards completion - this would be much better skipped in favor of any of the many similar novels that have characters with more than 2 dimensions.
